Binance Co-Founder Changpeng Zhao Mulls A Meme Coin Based On His Dog

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, is considering launching a meme coin inspired by his pet dog.

Speculation around the potential token began after somebody on the X social media platform asked Zhao whether he had a dog, to which he responded that he owns a Belgian Malinois, not a Shiba Inu breed used for the branding of popular tokens including Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB).

Changpeng Zhao Asks How Meme Coins Work

After Zhao disclosed the breed of his dog, another X user then asked for a photo and the name of the former Binance CEO’s pet. Caught off guard, Zhao quoted the tweet in a Feb. 12 X post and asked how the whole meme coin process works, posting, “I share my dog’s name and picture, and then people create memecoins?“

After approximately 30 minutes, Zhao then returned to X and said that he “got the answers,” adding that it’s “pretty interesting how things work.” He went on to say that he will “mull it over for a day or so,” which he usually does with big decisions. He raised the question of whether he should respect his pet’s privacy, “or dox the dog for the cause.”

Zhao Has A History Of Voicing Concerns Over Meme Coins – Change In Stance?

In November last year Zhao called the meme coin trend a “little weird.” He then urged developers to build blockchain applications that actually have utility instead of deploying tokens that are purely driven by hype.

He admitted that he does not trade meme coins, but did say that there is a place for these lighthearted tokens in the market. “Not being into something doesn’t mean I’m against it,” he clarified in a Feb. 11 post.
