Friend.tech phishing scheme involved fake journalists

SlowMist reveals a sophisticated phishing attack on friend.tech, where fraudsters used fake interviews and malicious scripts to target users. Experts found that unknown attackers sent a link containing a malicious JavaScript script. Fraudsters tricked users into adding it as a bookmark, laying the groundwork for future malicious activities. The investigation also revealed that the attacker posed as a journalist from a well-known news agency and even had more than ten thousand followers on Twitter. The criminal targeted key opinion leaders who, due to their popularity, would consider it reasonable to receive invitations to interviews. Friend.Tech collaborators booted from chatrooms

Two collaborators on the Friend.Tech platform, known as YieldBouncer and Salience, reportedly lose chat access following their involvement in an aggregator tool. Friend.Tech, a decentralized social platform built atop a layer-2 network Base, reportedly banned two accounts from using the chat feature.  The owners of these accounts, identified as YieldBouncer and Salience on X, pointed to their aggregators as the possible reason behind Friend Tech’s decision. According to Salience, the user found themselves barred from chatrooms shortly after teaming up with YieldBouncer and contributing to a Friendbook tool. YieldBouncer’s Friendbook “mirrors” otherwise private chats and allows anyone to access this content for free. Are Friend.tech keys securities?

Friend.tech, the first popular app on Coinbase’s corporate Ethereum roll-up Base , allows users to purchase ‘shares’ in X (formerly Twitter) influencers. It also allows them to buy access to a special chat wherein other speculators deposit ETH and trade to increase or decrease their allocation to the influencer. Basically, Friend.tech is similar to BitClout, or its predecessor Income Sharing Agreements. However, given the millions of dollars at stake, attorneys are already questioning whether the app’s founders or influencers actually offered these shares as SEC urities without registering their offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission ( SEC ), as required by law.
